Behind the Scenes: Building a Community Platform
Technology with Purpose
Building a platform that serves dozens of local communities simultaneously is a fascinating technical challenge. Each town site needs to feel individual and locally relevant, while sharing a common infrastructure that allows us to maintain quality and add features efficiently.
Our technology stack is built on modern web standards with a focus on speed, accessibility, and search engine visibility. Every page is designed to load fast on mobile devices, because that is how most parents browse when they are out and about looking for something to do.
Community First Design
Every design decision starts with the question: does this help a local family find what they need? We test new features with real parents and business owners before rolling them out across the network. User feedback has shaped everything from how search works to the layout of listing pages.
We are particularly proud of our accessibility work. The platform is designed to be usable by everyone, including people using screen readers, keyboard navigation, and high contrast modes.
