Community Rocks Terms

Last updated: 23 September 2026

Community Rocks is My Town Rocks Limited’s discounted-listing scheme for charities, schools and not-for-profit community groups. An approved organisation is given a discount rate (between 0% and 100%) off our standard listing prices for listings that promote its own non-commercial activities.

Community Rocks is a discretionary benefit we choose to offer. It is not a right, and nothing in these terms obliges us to accept an application, apply a discount to any particular listing, or keep an organisation on the scheme. These terms sit alongside our Publishing Terms, which continue to apply to every listing.

1. Eligibility

Community Rocks is intended for organisations whose listings are non-commercial, for example:

  • registered charities and charitable incorporated organisations
  • schools, colleges and their parent–teacher associations
  • not-for-profit community groups, clubs and voluntary organisations
  • places of worship, town and parish councils, and similar community bodies

We decide who is eligible. We may accept or reject an application for any reason and are not required to give one. We may ask for evidence of your organisation’s status, such as a charity or company registration number, a constitution or a letter from a governing body, before or after approval.

Businesses, sole traders and commercial ventures are not eligible, even where some profits go to good causes. A business that supports a community organisation cannot use that organisation’s discount for its own listings. Do not describe your organisation as a registered charity unless it is entitled to that description.

Approval applies to the organisation named in the application and cannot be transferred to another organisation. Tell us promptly if your organisation’s purpose, status or activities change in a way that could affect eligibility. Applying, or being approved, does not guarantee that any listing will be published.

2. What the discount covers

The discount applies only to listings that promote your organisation’s own non-commercial activities.

One rate applies to your organisation across every My Town Rocks site. It applies to the listing price and to renewals of a discounted listing for as long as your organisation remains on the scheme. It does not apply to separate promotional products such as featured positions, newsletter placements or social media coverage unless we expressly agree that it does. The amount payable, if any, is shown before you commit.

Listings that normally qualify include:

  • your organisation’s own events, services, appeals and news
  • fundraising and ticketed events where the proceeds clearly go to a charitable or community cause
  • free or low-cost community activities
  • events that mention a sponsor in passing, for example “sponsored by” or a sponsor’s logo, where the listing is still about your activity rather than the sponsor

Listings that do not qualify include:

  • promotion of a business, product or paid service, including on behalf of a sponsor
  • events run by, or mainly for the benefit of, a commercial operator, even if hosted by or in aid of your organisation
  • listings that are mainly advertising for a third party
  • content that does not meet the Content Standards in our Publishing Terms

We judge whether an individual listing qualifies. Even if your organisation has been approved, we may decide that a particular listing does not qualify, in which case the standard price applies to that listing before it is published or continues to be published.

Where a listing falls between the two, for example it promotes a business or a paid service but the proceeds clearly go to a good cause, we may at our discretion offer a reduced discount for that listing instead of your full Community Rocks rate. Any such offer applies to that listing only.

Our decision on a listing does not affect your organisation’s approved rate for other listings unless we say so.

3. HQ and your local site

My Town Rocks head office decides applications and sets, changes and withdraws each organisation’s rate. The team running each local My Town Rocks site keeps editorial control of the listings on that site: they may decline to publish a listing, and they may decide that an individual listing does not qualify for the discount. Section 2 then applies to that listing, or section 7 if it has already been paid for at the discounted rate.

Questions about your application, your rate or your place on the scheme go to head office. Questions about a particular listing go to the team for the site it appears on.

4. Your commitments

When you apply you choose how your organisation will support My Town Rocks in return for the discount, for example linking to us from your website, sharing us on social media, featuring us in your newsletter, or sending our newsletter to your parents or members.

Your commitments form part of your application and we rely on them when we set your rate. You are not expected to use a channel your organisation does not have unless you have agreed to use it. You agree to:

  • put each commitment into effect within 30 days of approval, and keep it going for as long as you are on the scheme
  • provide evidence of a commitment when we ask for it, for example a link, screenshot or copy of a newsletter
  • tell us if you can no longer keep a commitment

If a commitment is not kept we may reduce your rate, remove your organisation from the scheme, or ask you to make good the commitment before any further discounted listing is published.

Anything you publish about My Town Rocks under a commitment must be accurate and, where advertising rules require it, must make clear that it is part of an arrangement with us.

Being on Community Rocks does not mean that My Town Rocks endorses your organisation or vouches for the safety or quality of its activities, and you must not present it that way.

5. Your declaration each time you publish

Each time you publish a listing at the Community Rocks rate you must tick the declaration confirming that:

  • your organisation still meets the eligibility criteria in section 1
  • the listing promotes your organisation’s own non-commercial activities as described in section 2
  • the information you gave in your application is still accurate

The declaration is made for that listing only. Making an inaccurate declaration is a serious breach of these terms.

6. Changing, suspending or withdrawing the discount

We may at any time, at our discretion, change your rate, suspend it, or remove your organisation from Community Rocks. Reasons we might do this include, but are not limited to:

  • your organisation no longer meets the eligibility criteria
  • a commitment has not been kept
  • an inaccurate declaration or application
  • a listing or your organisation’s conduct falls below the standards we expect, or may harm the reputation of My Town Rocks, its sites or its users
  • a change to the scheme itself, including closing it

We will tell you by email when your rate changes or is withdrawn, and where we can we will give a brief reason. Our decision is final, although we may consider anything you send us in reply.

If your organisation is removed from the scheme, listings that are already paid for at the discounted rate stay live until the end of their current paid period. Any renewal or new listing after removal is charged at the standard price. Where removal is because of an inaccurate declaration, an inaccurate application, or abuse of the scheme, we may instead remove the discounted listings immediately.

7. If a discounted listing should not have qualified

We will not ask you to pay the difference for a listing already published at the Community Rocks rate simply because we change our mind about it.

We may ask you to pay the difference between the discounted price and the standard price, or refund the discounted payment and take the listing down, where:

  • the listing did not meet section 2 when it was published
  • the declaration made for it, or your application, was inaccurate
  • the scheme has been abused

Where we do this we will tell you by email and give a brief reason. In any other case a listing you have already paid for stays live at the price you paid until the end of its current paid period.

8. General

  • Community Rocks may be changed or closed at any time. The version of these terms shown at the time you make your declaration is the version that applies to that listing.
  • Our Publishing Terms, including the Content Standards, Editorial Rights and Removal of Content sections, apply to every listing whether or not a discount is applied.
  • These terms are governed by the law of England and Wales.
